O’Meara joined the original lineup of Solid HarmoniE when she was 16 years old, and the group travelled to Sweden to record with then-young producer Max Martin. It was in a country and western pub that the S Club 7 members first heard her sing, after which she returned to Essex and began performing at open mic nights. In 1999, the band shot to popularity as they were featured in their own BBC series. Over their five years as a group, S Club 7 achieved four UK No. 1 singles, one UK No. 1 album, a series of hits across Europe, and a top ten single in the United States, Asia, Latin America, and Africa. It was 2001 when the ensemble was awarded Record of the Year. Despite having a top five hit with their final single, S Club’s final studio album did not crack the top ten in the UK. Nonetheless, S Club made the decision to split up at a live performance on April 21, 2003.
Having hired Simon Fuller as her artist management in 2004, O’Meara began working on what would become her debut solo album, which was scheduled for release sometime between September and December of that same year.
